| Surfrider Foundation supports preservation of Burnham Strip Published/Last Modified on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 10:00 PM PST Michael L. Kimsey Dear editor: The article in the Review last week misstated our position on the use of the El Granada Median Strip. The article said that, regarding use of the strip as open space, we at Surfrider Foundation are on the "other side." This is not true. We support El Granada residents and Midcoast Park Lands 100 percent in keeping this area non-commercial open space. This is essentially what my letter said, published in the Review two weeks ago. To make up for the parking lost by closing the bluffs, when and if the Coronado and Highway 1 stop lights go in, we suggest that the San Mateo County right-of-way at Obispo and Coronado be used for parking. This way the beach-users can safely park, cross Highway 1 at the stoplights and walk either direction on the beach. In addition, by keeping the parking primarily on Obispo, none of the wetland areas of the Median Strip adjacent to Highway 1 need be filled in. Michael L.
