E.G. mobile home owners look ahead

Published/Last Modified on Tuesday, Apr 01, 2003 - 10:00:00 pm PST

Dear editor:

On behalf of all the residents of the Granada Manufactured Home Community, I want to thank the Board of Supervisors for giving us a reprieve from our April 1 rent increase by passing an urgency ordinance on March 25.

We are very grateful for all the support we have received from Supervisor Rich Gordon, the Midcoast Community Council, and the Coastside community in our long struggle to get out from under the callous and oppressive rule of the out-of-state park owner.

We look forward to a time when we, as homeowners on rented land, no longer need to fear economic eviction and the inability to sell and loss of equity in our homes, due to unreasonable and uncontrolled space rent increases.

We look forward to a time when a fair share of the space rent we pay can be reinvested in our community to bring it up to current codes and give us back what we have lost over the years, as facilities have deteriorated or been taken away from us.

We look forward to a time when the Homeowners Association will have a meaningful voice in community affairs, and in management and maintenance standards, when residents can vote on the rules and architectural standards of our community, and be treated by management with openness, honesty and respect.

Lisa Ketcham

Secretary, Homeowners Association of El Granada MHC
