Dear editor:
On Tuesday, Feb 24, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will vote on allowing a residence in the El Granada open space. This is feasible through a use permit loophole.
This project has been rejected unanimously twice by the San Mateo County Planning Commission. The applicants have stated no environmental study is required, even though it is in a view corridor, has no water or sewer and is substandard.
The Planning Commission refused to hear the project without a study, but the supervisors may override this and approve the project without further review by the commissioners. This would break the promise of a full review by the public that we received from the county planners. This will also set a dangerous precedent that will allow the complete waterfront of El Granada to be developed. Recently, during the Local Coastal Program review for the Mid-Coast, the planning commission voted unanimously to remove this loophole.
