Reader gives thanks for a new era of security

Dear editor:

The recent purchase of El Granada Manufactured Home Community by a not-for-profit owner marks the beginning of a new era of peace and security for our neighborhood.

It was a long and difficult road to reach this goal and we have a huge debt of gratitude to all who helped, mentoring us and lobbying for us, and to the Board of Supervisors for their understanding and concern and for taking the sometimes-difficult actions needed to bring about this success.

Throughout this experience it was an inspiration to me to meet and learn from so many wonderful and caring people who generously gave of their time and knowledge to help bring about a lasting solution for this affordable housing community.

A heartfelt thank you to the Midcoast Community Council past and present members (especially April Vargas who picked up the ball in 2001 and never dropped it), Peter Reid of Stanford Law Clinic, Paul Cohen of La Raza Centro Legal, Lennie Roberts of Committee for Green Foothills, Don Mendel of Nurserymen's Exchange, Fran Wagstaff of Midpeninsula Housing Coalition, the Coastside Health Committee's Housing Task Force, and the many other concerned county residents who advised us, attended hearings, addressed the Supervisors and wrote letters in support.

Thank you to the Planning Commission and county staff for all your work on our behalf. And thank you to the Review for the many excellent articles and supportive editorial.
