Jonathon Lundell is a reasonable, articulate and engaged member of the community and a
longtime observer of school district affairs. He has run an intriguing campaign predicated largely upon whether the district should proceed with construction of a middle school on the Wavecrest property.

That is the principle reason we support the election of Charles Gardner and John Moseley this time around.
Gardner is a civil engineer by trade, use to pushing through multimillion dollar projects. He was a member of the MidCoast Community Council board before resigning to seek the school board seat. He argues abdicating that seat made sense given his commitment to the schools and, therefore, the possibility of conflict between school and council votes.
He makes no bones about the fact that he was asked to run by current pro-Wavecrest trustees. He says there is no perfect solution to school construction on the Coastside, but adds that moving forward with the Wavecrest proposal is best.
John Moseley is an airline pilot with a long history of conflict resolution experience as a member of a pilots' association committee. He has been active in the Parent-Teacher Association and other aspects of CUSD inner workings.
Like Gardner, Moseley supports building the middle school. Unlike Gardner, he strikes a much more conciliatory tone. He says he respects Lundell and only diverges from his opponent on matters of facilities.
That is important.
We were struck by how little the school board candidates had to say about educating our children. We hope that - once construction of the middle school is underway - the vitriol will cease and everyone in the district can begin to work together on issues more important than bricks and mortar.
The Review supports Gardner and Moseley precisely because we believe they can get a school built and move on.
