Let's buy and preserve ocean views

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, Aug 02, 2006 - 04:27:14 pm PDT

Dear editor:

Thank you for the article about the strip of land between Avenue Alhambra and Highway 1 and what is being done by Midcoast Parks and their Burnham Strip Committee to save it for future generations.

I have noticed that many feel that that land will be there for us all to use, now and in the future. It surprises me how many don't realize that we can lose that land, and soon.

The county is actually considering a zoning change that would allow a slew of homes to be built on that potential park. If that happens, the California Coastal Commission would want lots of tall trees to surround each parcel. Goodbye to ocean views in El Granada.

Now is the time, folks. Put up or shut up. Let's acquire the land. Rich Gordon and other San Mateo County supervisors have said they will support making a "Marina Green" type park, if we show up first. Let's put in an ocean view walking path, not a thousand trees.
