Randy Piegaia, 56, of Olathe, Colorado, passed away Jan. 11, 2008 at Montrose Memorial Hospital; after a valiant battle with a complex and fatal illness.
Randall G. Piegaia was born on Aug. 24, 1951 in San Mateo to former Coastside residents, Reno and Mildred “Millie” Piegaia. Randy spent his childhood and received his education, living in the mid-San Mateo County of the Bay Area.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane, daughter Angie; Randy’s mother, Millie Auger; sister, Valerie Wheeler, and brother Troy Piegaia all of Placerville. Also an Aunt- in-law, Lorraine and Uncle George Piegaia of Mt. Ranch, Calif.; and, also include a large family of in-laws, nieces and nephews, and many first and second cousins living on the Coastside, in the Bay Area; and, the states of California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Colorado.
Randy was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Guglielemo and Eda Piegaia; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Brazil; his father Reno John Piegaia; stillborn twin brothers; and, another infant brother, Paul John Piegaia.
Randy was a descendant of a large group of ancestors and family members who immigrated from Italy and Portugal in the early 1900s. Randy’s family tree has many familiar Coastside names including Bettencourt, Brazil, Nerli, Piegaia, Romani, and Torre; who founded early Coastside businesses in the ranching, fishing and restaurant industries.
The funeral and memorial service was in St. Mary’s Catholic Church; and after, a celebration of life and a luncheon was held for family and friends on January 17, 2008. The American Legion Hall in Olathe, Colo. was decorated with many beautiful floral arrangements as well as a wonderful display of photographs of Randy and his life. A private burial service will be held at a later date in California. Randy Piegaia will be grieved and missed by his wife, daughter, and loving family, as well as all his friends and associates.
