John (Jack) Clayton Gratiot, 70, died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at his home in Half Moon Bay from natural causes. He was under the care of Pathways Home Health and Hospice.

He was born April 24, 1937 in St. Louis, Minnesota to James Clayton and Mamie Christine Gratiot. He grew up in Twin Falls, Idaho and after graduation joined the Air Force. He served from 1956 to 1959 as a cryptographer. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force he moved to California.

Jack enjoyed telling and hearing stories, caring for his home and especially spending time with his dog and faithful companion “Sneakers.” For the last few years of his life he was often too ill to leave his home, and he was very grateful to those who cared for him and helped him and visited with him.

Survivors include his nieces Marianne and Becky (Jim) Bales of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Sandy (Bob) Harris of Big Lake, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his sister Bernice Lechner and his brothers Henry, Gordon, James, Jackie and Calvin Gratiot.

Private family services will be held at a later date. All County Cremation Service, 650-343-3914.
