George Jackson
December 22, 1922 - May 5, 2009
Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 - 12:54:11 pm PDT
Beloved husband, neighbor, and friend, George Jackson passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009. He will always be remembered for his love of dogs, of which he always had at least one, if not two (or three); and for his green thumb in the garden, that was a benefit to us all. He would often deliver tomatoes, apples, pears, and occasionally roses, to our doorsteps. George was a man of deep conservative principles, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a resident of Half Moon Bay for over 40 years. George also served his country in WWII aboard the USS Brownson (DD-518). On December 26, 1943 the USS Brownson was sunk in the Battle of New Britain, off Cape Gloucester. As a survivor of that day, George has now returned to the same ocean that claimed his shipmates, and finds his final resting place there. He leaves behind his wife Evelyn, and his dog Molly. He will be greatly missed by us all.
