Pedestrian hospitalized in DUI crash

A pedestrian was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after police say a drunken teenage driver hit him with her car late Sunday afternoon on Kelly Avenue near Francis State Beach. A witness said the 18-year-old driver, identified as Melanie Lynn Holbrook of Foster City, was responsible for colliding her black Lexus SUV into the pedestrian, knocking him unconscious. Holbrook was questioned by police officers and found to have a blood-alcohol level higher than 0.08, the state legal limit. Police say Holbrook may have been under the influence of other intoxicants. She was arrested for a DUI-related injury accident and a hit-and-run felony. The victim suffered from broken ribs, abrasions on his right shoulder and pains running through his right side and back. He was taken to Stanford Medical Center for treatment.

Someone used permanent markers to draw male genitalia on a community painting near the dolphin statue at El Granada Elementary School. The damage was estimated at $45.

11:52 p.m., June 26, Arnold Way

A woman said her husband abused her during an argument by pushing her, poking her in the head and pulling her hair. The case has been forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.

Burglary

10 a.m., June 27, Highway 1

Someone kicked in the front door to a Half Moon Bay business. Police found the alarm deactivated, and officers decided to watch the location more closely during patrols.

Drugs

8:13 a.m., June 24, Lewis Foster Drive

A Half Moon Bay High School student was caught in possession of a marijuana pipe. The 16-year-old student was already on probation, and he was released to a parent.

DUI

7:48 p.m., June 25, Kelly Avenue

A 33-year-old driver was seen spinning his wheels and racing through intersections. The driver was stopped and found to be drunk. He failed sobriety tests and was taken to First Chance.

Gang crime

5:44 p.m., June 27, Kelly Avenue

An 18-year-old was cited for lying to officers when registering as a gang registrant. The young man had given a false address to officers.

11:30 p.m., June 27, Highway 92

Two juveniles riding bikes were stopped for riding without proper lighting. One of the pair was on probation for affiliating with a gang.

Restraining order

2:55 p.m., June 23, Potter Avenue

A woman told police she thought a neighbor violated a restraining order by staring at her. The case has been forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

Suspicious person

8:15 p.m., June 23, Poplar Street

Two people were spotted rifling through their neighbor’s mail. The suspects put all the mail back, but police were called out to investigate the incident.

Theft

June 25, Miramontes Avenue

Someone stole money from three purses belonging to teachers at Hatch Elementary School. Police say a total of $205 was taken from the purses.

2 p.m., June 26, Highway 1

A woman’s purse was stolen while she shopped at either Longs Drugs or Safeway.

3:30 p.m., June 28, Miramontes Avenue

A child’s Red Flyer wagon was stolen from the beach bluffs.

4:54 p.m., June 19, Mirada Road

A crying man told police that his fiancée had just attempted to run him over with her car. A witness supported the man’s story, saying a woman driving a car was chasing a man through a vacant field. The fiancée was arrested when she returned home. Three days after the incident, the man called the Sheriff’s Office, saying he fabricated the whole story to punish his fiancée for an argument.

Public intoxication

12:50 a.m., June 21, La Conte Avenue

Three people reeking of alcohol were caught wandering through Farallone View Elementary School after midnight. One of the subjects reportedly refused to follow orders from a Sheriff’s deputy, even for directions to keep his hands out of his pockets. The young man said he wanted to call his mother so that he could sue the deputy. He tried to walk away several times, saying the officers had no right to detain him. He was placed in handcuffs and told to sit in the patrol car, which he did after several requests. He was taken to jail for public intoxication and resisting officers.

Theft

10 a.m., June 20, 12th Street

Someone stole a debit card from a wallet, using it to make several purchases and withdrawals from local stores. More than $500 in charges were made to the victim’s account, but the loss is expected to be reversed by the victim’s bank.

Vandalism

8:39 a.m., June 22, 6th Street

An car owner complained about a new dent and scratch on a car parked on the driveway of his home. The damage was estimated at $2,000.

2 p.m., June 18, California Avenue

Someone in Florida was using a stolen identity to open loans and make purchases. Sheriff’s deputies say the loan has remained open for the last three years with a balance of $11,000.

11:29 a.m., June 18, Nevada Avenue

A resident reported his neighbor was making threats against him.

San Gregorio

Fire

7:29 p.m., June 18, San Gregorio Beach

Someone started a driftwood fire on the beach north of San Gregorio, which required the Coastside Fire Protection District to respond and extinguish it. Several people were seen leaving the area in a hurry, but none caught.

Driving down the coast on a foggy Thursday morning, Katheryn Weaver stopped the van to pick up Keena on her way to day camp. With Bailey and Rocky already on board, she continued her trek from Montara to San Gregorio.
