Firefighters are crediting an automatic sprinkler system with helping to limit damage due to a Friday night fire at the historic Moss Beach Distillery.

The fire was reported at 7:36 p.m. Friday at 140 Beach Way in Moss Beach. The restaurant was occupied at the time of the fire and patrons were evacuated into the parking lot. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. It started near a calculator in the manager's office, according to a release from the Coastside Fire Protection District. It caused about $10,000 in damage.

The release credits an automatic sprinkler system for limiting the damage. In addition, an employee used a fire extinguisher to push back the flames.
